Formula Powerboats recently premiered the 290 FX4, the first model of its new FX Series, at the Freeport, New York, Formula Northeast Showroom. The revolutionary FX concept blends spectacular eye appeal inspired by Formula’s legendary FAS3TECH performance line together with their popular day boating design of Sun Sports and Super Sports. The series will include the Formula 290 FX4, 310 FX5 and 350 FX6.
Silver Diamond Metallic Imron covers the entire surface of the 290 FX4 above the water line, including the deck and full cockpit, so that sunlight plays over the varying angles and planes with uniquely fascinating results. The bold graphics in high gloss red and satin black emphasize the excitement and exhilaration of FX sport boating.
The FX4 retains all the plus factors of the 290 Sun Sport introduced by Formula in 2010. The spacious cockpit features an adjustable dual helm seat and port lounge forward along with an L-shaped lounge and table arrangement aft that, with filler cushions, becomes a large sunpad. At anchor, an aft-facing lounge converts to an additional double-wide sunning area and, for added comfort, features a custom-fitted duvet with FX logo. Storage is plentiful under seats and lounges for all-day boating necessities, and there’s even a lockable under-dash storage compartment that keeps personal items safe and dry.
The striking difference in the FX4 cockpit is its unique décor. In each seating and lounge area, the distinctive red and black color scheme is further highlighted by FX4 logo embroidery. The swim platform’s compression-molded, silver-effect decking, impressive custom cockpit carpet and custom Sunbrella® cockpit cover strongly echo the distinctive logo.
The helm centers on an adjustable, silver-and-chrome accented steering wheel, and the carbon-fiber patterned dash is the perfect setting for Livorsi oversized Mega Series gauges with blue LED backlighting. Throughout the cockpit, blue LED lighting is the special effect for speakers, drink holders, seating areas and the transom gate. Exterior blue LED down-lighting is integrated under the aft sun lounge and at the unique, customized engine vents. Bow docking lights and underwater lighting are available LED options. The sliding/locking cabin door and cockpit wetbar and sink are finished in Silver Diamond Metallic, and the wetbar counter features the structural carbon-fiber pattern.
In the cabin an Ultraleather lounge with Ultrasuede lumbar sections offers comfortable relaxation. The high-gloss, Deep Cherry wood dinette table lowers to create a sleeping berth with filler cushions. The lounge and décor pillows are tastefully embroidered with FX4 logos, and the Kenwood® AM/FM/CD stereo is convenient to starboard. The two 2-way marine grade speakers are backlit by blue LED technology. There is a Deep Cherry entertainment center with Corian® counter and stainless cup holders, while the hanging locker offers ample storage. The molded head compartment is complete with a porcelain unit, molded vanity with sink and demand water system. The 22-gallon holding tank provides for dockside pumpout.
Formula FX4 performance, fully powered by Twin 377 MerCruiser Bravo III engines, attains top speed at 57 mph along with all the stability and handling characteristics of Formula Sun Sport’s proven 22-degree deadrise design. Dual twin stainless steel CORSA side exhaust further confirms that the scintillating new FX4 concept successfully defines the ultimate in sport boating for today.
